Title: “May God Who Has Begun This Good Work in You Bring it to Fulfillment!”
These words, from the Rite of Ordination, describe the reality that ordination is not emancipation from formation. A priest is always striving to grow into the child of God and the priest of God that he is called to be. Working himself to the bone for others, a priest can allow things to get out of balance and to neglect to work on himself. “The only success recognized by God is Christ-likeness.” (St. John Paul II)
Fr. Brett Brannen was ordained a priest in 1991 for the Diocese of Savannah. He has served as a pastor, the diocesan vocation director, and the vice-rector of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary. Fr. Brannen has preached numerous retreats and parish missions. He teaches at the Institute for Priestly Formation and with The Theology of the Body Institute. Fr. Brannen is currently the pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Savannah, Ga.
